It’s finally here – the single most descriptive color of upcoming 2017. But before I get into the fun of Greenery, let’s reflect on the past year.
In 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity joined together in a tandem color of the year. The pale pink and pale purple-blue combination was predicted to embody the feelings of 2016. Pantone stated upon their announcement,
“As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.” “INTRODUCING ROSE QUARTZ & SERENITY.” Pantone. But was 2016 peaceful? No. I live in America and bore witness to a deep divide in the country that the rest of the world was undeniably questioning. Perhaps this divide was due to a heightened sense of well-being and mindfulness towards what is really going on around us and what we really think and believe true about the world around us. As people came to their realizations, conflict ensued because we are inevitably human and our views differed. This was the first time Pantone has chosen two colors to represent the year and perhaps that in and of itself symbolizes further what 2016 was to so many people. Even though both Rose Quartz and Serenity are pale, calming colors on their own, together they fight for the spotlight.
And now here we are at the beginning of a new turn around the sun with a new color chosen to inspire us. The following video short was used to unveil Greenery:

This was my favorite statement they made about their choice:
“This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.
A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.” “INTRODUCING GREENERY.” Pantone. Pantone LLC, Jan. 2017. Web. 7 Jan. 2017. <https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2017>.
Perhaps now that we’ve gone through a year of realization both for ourselves and the world around us, we can now move forward and once again reconnect with what is most important. To me, the name of the hue says it all. It is the greenery that directly links us to the earth and brings oxygen to our cells. It symbolizes new fruits and life. As strange as it may sound, when the clocks shifted over at the strike of midnight, even I felt the shift in energies. So let’s go forth to breath the Greenery of life and see what this new year has to offer.
